Haha, interesting observation, I never considered that he always set the traps AHEAD of the other races.

I view it similarly in that he was always concerned about beating others to the finish line, always concerned about that they were up to, and how they were performing, and never spent enough time focused on his own journey. And hence, he always lost out. Like you say, had he just focused on his own race, and his own performance, he would have invariably won many more races!
